Fed Chair Says Gov. Kelly’s “Very Generous Unemployment Benefits” Are Keeping People From Work
TOPEKA, KS –The verdict is in: The Chairman of the U.S. Federal Reserve says federal unemployment benefits are to blame for record-high unemployment.
Today, Chairman Powell explained that the difficulty businesses are seeing in hiring is due to “very generous unemployment benefits,” and, that once the unemployment benefits are terminated, “we should see strong job creation moving forward.”
Kelly has ignored requests from Kansas businesses and the majority in the legislature to end the supplemental benefits. But now, even the federal government is admitting that Democrat governors like Laura Kelly are making it impossible for their state’s businesses to find workers.
“Governor Kelly’s refusal to end federal unemployment benefits has been a devastating blow for already struggling Kansas businesses,” said Shannon Golden, KSGOP Executive Director. “As employers across the state try desperately to find workers, there is only one explanation: Governor Kelly’s inaction.”
