Marshall: We must honor our commitment, move swiftly on Supreme Court vacancy

The American people faced a clear choice in both 2016 and 2018.
Democrats promised to nominate and confirm Supreme Court justices who would defend more regulations, strip away our Second Amendment rights, defend abortion, and continue writing laws from the bench.
Republicans, on the other hand, promised to nominate justices who would not legislate from the bench, protect the unborn, and uphold our Constitutional rights.
In both elections, the American people spoke clearly by sending a Republican to the White House and expanding the Republican U.S. Senate majority. And now, both the president and the Senate should move swiftly to fill the Supreme Court vacancy.
The media and liberal politicians are doing everything they can to spin this as the same situation America faced in 2016, but that simply isn’t the case.
There has been a Supreme Court vacancy in an election year 29 times in American history, and a president has submitted a nomination all 29 times. However, the last time the Senate confirmed a nominee of the opposing party was in 1888. That was the case in 2016. It is not the case in 2020.
The future of Kansas and our entire country was already on the ballot in 2020. Now, our Constitution is as well. We cannot stand idle and give it up to chance. Democrats are promising to end the filibuster, expand and pack the Supreme Court, and grant statehood to D.C. and Puerto Rico, which will add four Democrat U.S. Senators and guarantee themselves a Senate majority for generations to come.
Each of these issues would likely go to the Supreme Court, and we must have justices who will defend the Constitution and defend our values.
If Kansans send me to the U.S. Senate, I am committed to confirming judges who defend the Constitution and uphold the rule of law. Barbara Bollier and the Democrats have made it plain they will do the opposite. If Bollier were the moderate she claims to be, she wouldn’t be repeating Chuck Schumer’s Democrat partly line talking points on this critical issue.
Elections have consequences. The American people elected this president and Republican U.S. Senate to do a job, and to do it swiftly. For the sake of our country’s future and the very institutions that have made our nation great, a new Supreme Court justice must be confirmed as soon as possible.
Elections have consequences, and voters across the country expect the Senate to honor their commitment, both now and always.
