KSGOP Statement on Toland appointment to Lt. Governor

TOPEKA, KS – The Kansas Republican Party today issued the following statement on the appointment of David Toland to fill the Lieutenant Governor vacancy:
Kansas GOP Chairman Mike Kuckelman said: “The appointment of Lynn Rogers to replace a duly-elected Republican in the State Treasurer’s office and now the subsequent move to replace him with a liberal partisan such as David Toland shows Laura Kelly has no interest in working with Republicans to achieve meaningful solutions in Topeka. She’s simply interested in placating her far-left base.

“Kansans are tired of Governor Kelly’s liberal extremism and disastrous handling of this pandemic and our state’s economy. They’re tired of being told abortion clinics are essential but small businesses, churches, and our children attending classes in-person are not. Today’s move means she missed the message voters sent in November by electing Republicans up and down the ballot.

“Thanks to those voters, our veto-proof conservative supermajorities in the state legislature mean Governor Kelly’s liberal agenda is dead on arrival for the remainder of her term. I’m confident that, should she decide to run for re-election, Kansans will send her into retirement.”

Toland is best-known for managing an organization with ties to late-term abortionist George Tiller and serving as Kelly’s campaign treasurer in 2018. As Secretary of Commerce, he has helped Kelly oversee the worst economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States and manages a tax credit program a non-partisan auditor has said is rife with problems and cost the state $20 million in lost revenue.
